A fraud in what manner? He received a commission as Captain in the Louisiana Militia. This information is from State Records.

The myth that he was at First Manassas is a continuation of the myth he was at the Battle of New Orleans.

I thought it very unlikely that he was at Manassas. The only reason I posted the article is that it was in a book by a well known historian of the 19th century.
