Thank you Joe.
I only wish my great grandmother (the daughter of the veteran), who I knew well, had been more interested in the Civil War as a girl/young woman when he was alive. Then she could have told me a lot more.
She said that he, like many veterans, was very reluctant to talk of his experiences, except when visited by an old comrade. At that point, the women would excuse themselves usually.
I often wonder what happened to his uniform.
It is interesting to note the value of such uniforms. I took note, when I was in one the major shops in Gettysburg, of a somewhat tattered Confederate enlisted uniform. It listed for sale at over $25k!
