Orleans Guards

I am in the process of trying to fill in some gaps in the service of 2nd Lieutenant Oscar Michel Gaudet...my great great grandfather. He was commissioned 2nd Lieutenant in the 5th Battery (Pelican Battery) of the Louisiana Light Artillery on Ocotber 31, 1862. The last mention that I can find of him prior to that commission is that he was on the roster as the assistant surgeon of the Orleans Guard Battalion of Volunteer Infantry one year prior in October 1861. I am interested in finding out if he was with the Orleans Guard at the time of the Battle of Shiloh. The Orleans Guard was disbanded on June 6, 1862. It is my understanding that they were decimated at Shiloh. Any information that anyone can give me regarding this unit(Orleans Guard) and specifically where I might find information regarding Oscar Gaudet would be very much appreicated. I do have his records from the National Archives and have located a number of reports in the ORs in which he is mentioned as a result of his service as an artillery officer.
