It would probably be difficult to say whether some weather events were hurricanes or just large storms systems. While not in the Civil War, a hurricane did apparently come up the east coast during the War of 1812 aboutthe time the British captured Washington. During their retreat the storm spawned several tornadoes that killed more English soldiers than were lost in battle to capture the city.
