Point Lookout - MD. Prisoner of War

Greetings,

I am looking for help in trying to find the full name and unit of a LA. soldier who enlisted out of New Orleans, was taken prisoner after Gettysburg and imprisoned at Point Lookout in Maryland. Other known information is as follows:

Last Name: Dickey
First Name: (Unknown)
Probable Home Address: 108 Canal St. New Orleans

Scenario:
I have a prisoner of war letter that this soldier's father (Mr. V.L. Dickey) wrote to Capt. J.N. Patterson (of the 2nd NH Volunteers under General Marston)on behalf of his son who was being held at Point Lookout, Maryland (a confederate POW camp), requesting his parole for health concerns (bad lungs).

In the letter the father doesn't mention his son's name. Perhaps, becuase the son's name was already known by Captain Patterson, as Mr. Dickey indicates that his letter is a follow up to his first.

Anyways, I'm very curious as to whether Capt. Patterson actually granted the father's wish and pardoned his only son (of 19 years), or whether the kid langished in prison until the war ended, or, perhaps, even worse, perished due to his illness before he could get home..

I would really like to know how this story ended. And as I'm not the strongest researcher and would sure appreciate any help! The letter is so powerful, you can feel the father's anguish with every stroke of his pen..

If anyone is interested in veiwing the letter, I would be glad to send or post a pic.

Kind Regards,

D.S. Hale - Millennity@cox.net
