There are but two mentions of Red Church in the entirety of the OR. It is also shown on Plate 156 D8 in the Official Military Atlas of the Civil War to accompany the Official Records. It is approximately 15 miles upstream of New Orleans on the Mississippi, opposite St. Charles Court House.

Direct Captain Waters to drop down the river after daylight to the Red Church Landing, in front of Botte Station, on the New Orleans and Opelousas Railroad, and watch there for the enemy, who may try to get over by a road running from the Mississippi River to Boutte Station.
