Michael, I don't have my notes at hand so I'm not sure which units the La. Brigade was posted around, but could it be possible you're source might be referring to Antietam? There they were held in reserve for awhile before being sent into action. But on the afternoon of August 30 at Second Manassas, Starke's brigade was already posted on the front lines in the famous railroad cut. It was that afternoon that they held their postition by throwing rocks at the Yankees when they ran out of ammunition.
