Consolidated Crescent Regiment

My G-G-G Grandfather was Joseph Austin from Old Calcasieu Parish. He was a Private with the Consolidated, in Company D under Alfred Mouton. His Company's Commander was Charles Moore. He was killed on the battlefield & buried in a trench grave there. I was just wondering if anyone knew if any old letters were in existence about the battle written by soldiers who were there? Or if anyone had any more information on this particular regiment under Mouton? Have found information on the battle & the major players but I'm more interested in the grunts & their lives. Would help give me a better view of what my ancestor may have been like since hardly any information has been passed down. Thanks for any information.
