Erin,
I have just discovered this site and your emails. My father was born in Cheneyville in 1902 and his mother was Mary Virginia Bennett, a daughter of David Maunsel Bennett and Sarah Ophelia Pearce. Apparently Maunsel Bennett did not use his first given name. I have a picture of him and similar Civil War information that is in the email stream following your inquiry. It was my understanding that he was captured after the seige at Port Hudson but escaped and continued in the War until the end. The family records are documented in "Three Pioneer Rapides Families" printed in 1946 and written by George Graham Stafford. I suspect you have also reviewed "The Old Evergreen Burying Ground" by Porter Wright.
I am interested in any more information you might turn up or helping further if I can.
