The Louisiana in the Civil War Message Board

Friends of Sabine Pass Battleground

This is to announce the formation of a new support group for Sabine Pass Battleground. As many of you know, the Sabine Pass Battleground on the edge of the Texas/Louisiana border was recently transferred from the Texas Parks and Wildlife Department to the Texas Historical Commission. With THC's encouragement we have now set up Friends of Sabine Pass Battleground to help with the mission of preserving and interpreting the historical events in the Sabine Pass area. We have applied for non-profit status with the IRS and are in the process of soliciting charter members for the organization. If you would like to become a charter member please fill out this form and send it in with a check or money order for $25. We hope to put out a newsletter and provide public input on the restoration of the battleground and its monuments and markers (many of which were damaged by recent hurricanes). I want to acknowledge the help of our many Louisiana friends in getting this organization formed and off the ground. I particularly want to acknowledge Steve Mayeux, who sent me a lot of great information about similar Louisiana organizations. Hope to see many of you as members.
