I am writing a work of historical fiction in which Frederick Nash Ogden makes an appearance, set in New Orleans in late 1861. According to my sketchy sources, Ogden served in the first part of the Peninsular Campaign in 1862 and then returned to New Orleans before its fall to the Union in April. At some point he was breveted from private to major. Does anyone have any idea when this promotion occurred? Before his participation in the Peninsular Campaign? Many thanks.
