The unit involved is, as you surmised, Company A of the Crescent Artillery (Hutton's Artillery). The Crescent Regiment (Infantry) was never stationed at Fort DeRussy, although they were in the area at times.

Co. A of the Crescent Artillery had two officers and twenty-four enlisted men on the list of men captured at Fort DeRussy on March 14, 1864. Their names are listed in Appendix D of "Earthen Walls, Iron Men." This unit was present at Fort DeRussy for all three of the major actions that took place there (capture of Queen of the West, the Gunboat Fight, and the 1864 capture of the fort), and also participated in the capture of USS Indianola. They were the closest thing there was to a "garrison unit" at Fort DeRussy.
