The Civil War Preservation Trust today released its annual report on battlefields that it says are deteriorating due to neglect, land development and other threats.

The Mansfield battlefield in DeSoto Parish, which has lignite mining underway in areas adjacent to the battlefield park, wasn't in the top 10 as it had been in the past. The mining continues, but other battlefields around the country have replaced Mansfield on the list of most-threatened areas.

The sites on this year's list include Gettysburg, Penn.; Port Gibson, Miss., Sabine Pass, Texas; South Mountain and Monocacy in Maryland; and Cedar Creek, New Market Heights, and Wilderness in Virginia.

Since 1987, the Civil War Preservation Trust has saved about 25,000 acres of historic land.
