The Louisiana in the Civil War Message Board

Re: La. State Historic Sites to close?

I sympathize with the situation that you are facing in Louisiana. I live in Illinois and we had the same threats with closure of historical sites from Governor Blago#%&*@!vich, (simulated foul language he was fond of). We got lucky, he got impeached.
Our new Governor (Pat Quinn) is reversing these proposed closures. I feel he will be better for Historic Sites here in Illinois. I was in your state a little over two weeks ago attending a Civil War living history event, I'm sure the $9 revenue for every $1 dollar spent on these sites was collected from myself and my 12 pards from Iowa, Wisconsin, and Illinois that were with me. (Many others came from all over the US and even Europe to attend this event.) Do yourselves a favor, when you elect a person who will not respect OUR heritage VOTE HIM OUT!!! Your elected officials are showing a lack of vision, "heritage" tourism brings in more income to local economies than any other form of tourism, and the 150th Anniversary is just around the corner.
