Major Loudon Butler of the 19th Louisiana was originally from South Carolina. Would anyone happen to know the factors as why he was in Louisiana (reasons for moving, etc.)? I have read, but not concretely documented, he was out here for schooling (which he graduated South Carolina College in 1855), so I am not sure why he would be out here for that. Another source says "social engagements" kept him busy from Minden to Shreveport to New Orleans to South Carolina. He was also an officer in the South Carolina militia as of 1860. Thought I would prick the brains of you guys and see if someone might be able to help fill this piece of the puzzle.
