Boy, does this bring up memories. I lived near Fort Humbug back in the 40s and 50s. I fondly remember the National Guard tanks driving through the neighborhood down Cornwell Ave. Cornwell was unpaved and covered only with tar so that the tanks would tear up the surface making it hard to ride my bike over to my friend's house. Then the city would have to come out and grade and retar the street. I remember the tank carried the name "Iron Coffin." We would ride our bikes over to the bluffs at Ft. Humbug where I liked to envision the fake cannons holding off the Yankee invaders.
