I cannot locate any specific information that ties the Crescent Artillery to the Crescent Regiment either; but that said, there does seem to be a pattern of volunteer militia operational formations (battalions and regiments) having either organic artillery assets, or forming artillery batteries. The Beauregard Battalion and Algiers Battalion both had organic artillery batteries, Co A. of the Battalion of Louisiana Guards converted to artillery, Henry Ducatel of the Regiment of Orleans Guards was authorized by Gov. Moore to form an artillery battery (The Orleans Guards Battery) that was to be attached to the regiment, and the Confederate Guards Artillery Battery had association with Regiment of Confederate Guards because both were in the 3rd Brigade of Louisiana Volunteer Troops. While the later is least convincing, the above does show a trend that some of the militia formations contained or created artillery batteries. Hence, it would not surprise me if the Crescent Regiment did indeed form an artillery battery. If so, however, would it have been Hutton's or Wades'?
