Re: Correction: Capt.Octave F. Vallette Co.A.30th

Thank you for your help. I realized this morning that I had the wrong La. group...my brain was tired last night when I wrote this :(
Yes, there is a Vallette St. in Algiers but I think that was named for the family who owned warehouses and a dry dock on the river. When news
arrived in New Orleans that the Union Troops were coming down the river and planned to use these for their benefits. Francois, Octave's father,
ordered all of the properties to be blown up rather than fall into the hands of the Union. Their prosperous business ended up at the bottom
of the Mississippi River. After the war, the business was never the same again. The family lost everything for their patroitism during the occupation of New Orleans.
He became a Capt. when his Commander Tampaigner was shot in the mouth and went home to heal. Commissioned on Sept.8, 1863.
Octave was wounded in the Battle of Ezra Church (Poorhouse Battle)on July 28th,1864.
The above info was obtained from Octave's Obit. Aug. 02, 1902.
I was born in Algiers and now live in the Atlanta area. I wanted to make a trip to see the field where the battle took place. I am hoping to get
directions to find where it is located.
