This makes since now! Capt. kelso was "dropped" on April 30, 1862. He was replaced by Michael A. Grogan on May 1, 1862. Grogan's personal papers say he was "elected". Kelso must have returned to Louisiana then.

Kelso was still a captain by the end of the war, as far as I can tell, having ended his service in the Consolidagted Crescent Regiment. I found it strange that he remained a captain the duration of the war.
