Re: Killed by jayhawkers
In Response To: Killed by jayhawkers ()

The truth of this story is that the two men killed, Green and Bradford, were themselves jayhawkers who had been captured by the Home Guard. The Home Guard unit was taking the pair from Dry Creek to Longville and the pair either bolted for their freedom and shot or were simply taken off the road and shot. The pair were dumped in a common grave where they fell.

Green and Bradford were residents of Dry Creek. Their families simply started saying that the pair were killed BY jayhawkers and neighbors who knew the truth let this pass.

A story that came down through my family, the Hendersons, is that the procession of men stopped for water at the Henderson home on the Longville Road and that the family's children watched the group through chinks in their log home.
