Booth shows him as Charlton Lindsey. Chas might have been someone's attempt to shorten name for filling out forms and such.

Lindsey, Charlton (also borne on Rolls as Lindsey, Chas.), Pvt. Co. I, 14th La. Inf. En. May 20, 1861, Carroll Par., La. Present on Rolls to Aug., 1861. Present or absent not stated on Roll for Nov. and Dec., 1861. Roll for Jan. and Feb., 1862. Absent on furlough to Louisiana. Roll for March and April, 1862, Present. Roll for May and June, 1862, Present or absent not stated. Roll for July and Aug., 1862, Died July 20, 1862. Died Aug. 30, 1862 (from Duplicate Roll). Report of deaths dated Sept. 16, 1863, Died July, 1862. at Richmond, from wounds. Born Ohio.

Civil War Soldier and Sailors System shows both Charlton and Charles as first name. Probably due to different forms with different names.

IF you want to know for 'sure' could order his military records. Link at top of page. Or get copy of microfilm with his info - Film Number M378 roll 17
