I have a letter, written 1 Sep 1867, from Moore to a family member, who stated in part..."I am as completely ruined as you are. Having my two devastated & destroyed plantations, everything having been burnt, & to improve them will worse than bankrupt me & without their sale, lease or rent..." The letter goes on to express Moore's total disdain for the Carpetbaggers, Southern Scalawags, "ignorant negroes & thieving radicals."
