6th LA Infantry, Co. D, Flag

While researching one of my kinsmen in the 6th LA Infantry, Co. D, made up primarily of men from Catahoula and Tensas Parishes, I came across a description of the company's flag in a c1895 St. Joseph, LA newspaper article by a veteran of that company.

The flag consisted of a solid blue field bordered with gold fringe on three sides and, in the center, a white cotton bale with gold strapping. Below this bale was sewn in gold italics: "Tensas Rifles 1861."
