Co. F was the 'Opelousas Guards' from the Parish of St. Landry, this company of 95 men was mustered into State service on 11 June 1861, and was then mustered into Confederate service on 15 June 1861 as part of the 8th Regiment of Louisiana Volunteer Infantry at Camp Moore. The Opelousas Guards were initially under the command of Capt. James C. Pratt, 1Lt. John Taylor, 2Lt. G. W. Hudspeth. 2Lt. Jr. Albert Dejean.
