Although I had never met Art "in the flesh", I had many email interactions with him over the years re the 11th/17th Arkansas in and around the Port Hudson area. He was always open, accessible, and willing to share info with me.

We had also interacted re our French ancestors (Huguenot in my case) and things "Cajunish", etc.

I had emailed him a couple of weeks ago re a Bergeron in-law of my wife's ancestors in New Orleans; his email gave no hint of his health problems. I will very greatly miss him as a most excellent (!!!!) historian and friend.
