Sincere thanks to you, Mr Holloway and Mr Cosby for letting us know of the death of Art Bergeron. He was a wonderful historian and a mentor to a generation of historians and people interested in American and Civil War history. He was open and unreservedly generous with his time, advice and shared information, a role model that each of us would be better for following. Art had opened his files and advice to me relative to two projects in progress, a thing he did not have to do, and had agreed to assist editorially with one of my projects, a kind and generous thing to do. His interest in quality of historiography was unremitting, unselfish and imminently dedicated to excellence.

As with all of the other LA CW Message Board participants, Art will be more than just missed, and he will be remembered by us all.
