There are three sources, two about the same man that exist in print on the 13th Battalion, Louisiana Partisan Rangers Cavalry (there was no 13th Regiment of Louisiana Cavalry.) There is some information on them in "The History of Claiborne Parish" by D.W. Harris and B.M. Hulse. Also, they are mentioned in the letters of William Edwards Paxton. The first source on him is "'Dear Rebecca': The Civil War Letters of William Edwards Paxton, 1861-1863" an article by Ken Durham in "Louisiana History", Vol. XX (1979) pages 169-196. There is also a book by Ken and Jeanette Durham called "Wiliam Edwards Paxton: Baptist Historian, 1825-1883". This does not have the detail of Paxton's letters in the first source but it does give an overall view of the 13th Battalion, supported by good notes to follow up on. Paxton started in Co. E, but later was appointed to quartermaster of the battalion.
