See pp. 84-85 of my book "The Civil War Memoirs of Capt. William J. Seymour". Seymour said Capt. Frank Moore of the 5th La. led 40 men on the raid and killed 12 and captured 42 members of the 5th N.Y. Cavalry. The Yankees accused the Tigers of murdering their commanding major after he surrendered but Seymour said it wasn't true. Seymour said he fired his pistol after being told to surrender and they killed him.
