I don't know about the soldier from Speight's cavalry, but DH Quirk of Co A, 2nd Louisiana Cavalry (CSA) could not have been at Pleasant Hill. He was captured at the debacle at Henderson Hill (Cotile, LA) on March 21, 1864 and was sent to New Orleans and probably kept in the US prison at the Cotton Press. He was exchanged at Red River Landing on July 22, 1864.
