Although I am also waiting to access the Jackson Barracks Civil War Collection for the first time, I would think it highly likely that it will contribute to this discussion of General Brent's promotion. Mr Holloway recently indicated that the Jackson Barracks Civil War Collection seems likely to be reopened in late 2011 or early 2012 (in approximately a year from now), after a final inventory of the now preserved contents. Art Bergeron e-mailed me in December and January mentioning his LA History article, and the value of the Jackson Barracks Civil War Collection to the unit I am working on, one of General Brent's Brigade.

Also, you have probably already looked at them, the contents of the Tulane University Library Manuscripts Dept. are also really worth looking into in regard to this question, and for General Brent in general.
