6th Louisianna Cavalry

Can anyone tell me what the 6th Louisianna Cavalry company F would have done during the Civil war and when they would have been active?

In staring at the awful handwriting on my ggggGrandfathers's indigent solider confederate pension...app...I believe it says 6th Cavalry rather than 5th. I can find nothing at all on this unit that tells me what they did.

Also, if anyone would have any ideas why a guy would have served in the Louisianna Cavalry rather than the Texas Cavalry...(when all the census records show him in Texas (excep 1860...can't find him anywhere).

He was later awarded a land grant of 110 acres in Bosque county Texas for his service.

His name was Owen David Griffin or OD Griffin.
He is not listed on the records I've been able to find but was told by an expert the following:

"The Compiled Military Service Records film set is far from thorough.
Many men who served in units in Trans-Mississippi Department fail to appear at all,
as that region was essentially "cut-off" from Confederate Government offices in Richmond, VA
with the fall of Vicksburg in July 1863. In these situations, unless the individual was
captured or paroled by the Federals (Union) at the end of the war, there is often no record.

Thus, post-war indigent pension applications are the back-up source of "proof".
"

The rest of his kin served in Cavalry units in Texas so I don't know why he was even in Louisianna.

He had a child born in 20 Sep 1861 and another in 31 Mar 1866 so I'm guessing he served after say Dec 1861 and was out before summer of 1865.
