6th LA Cavalry - Lt. J C De Berry

I would appreciate any information or citations that may be available on Lt. J C De Berry of Co. K, 6th LA Cavalry. I have obtained access to 4 letters from De Berry (1864 & 1865) to relatives which indicate that he was a Lieutenant reporting to Capt. Robert W Martin or Captain Bob (the Capt Bob mentioned in Art Bergeron's book, "A Thrilling Narrative: The Memoir of a Southern Unionist."), who was commander of Co K (Martin's Scouts) of the 6th LA Cavalry in 1864-65. In the letters, although De Berry does not mention Co K or the 6th LA Cavalry specifically, he sent regards to his relatives from two other Sabine Parish soldiers who are listed as members of Co K - again suggesting that Lt. De Berry was a member of Co K.

In searching for De Berry references, he is not listed in the Booth Compendium, Confederate Service Records (Footnote.com), or the NPS CWSS listing. I have found his name in an 1860 US census listing as a 27 year old merchant in the Many, LA area (Sabine Parish).

Does anyone have any information on De Berry or his service in Co K of the 6th LA Cavalry? The Jackson Barracks Library records may contain information, but it will not be available for research for approximately another year.

Thanks in advance for your help.
