The links you sent helped perfectly. I had found the parole document, but could not turn up the discharge document (Bond's/Stewart's) until you sent the link. Thanks again for the assistance - I really appreciate it.

The J C De Berry of the discharge paper is very likely the man I am looking for. As I indicated initially, I did find him on the 1860 US Census from Sabine Parish, Louisiana and he was 27 years old in 1860, and was born in South Carolina. He would have been 29 or 30 at the time of the discharge from Bond's Battalion.
