150th Manassas

I write to you to let you know of information related to the reenactment of the 150th Battle of Manassas to be held next July (2011) near Manassas, Virginia. At the 135th, 140th, and 145th events there was a unit formed to recreate the 1st Louisiana Special Battalion. For the 150th event this Battalion will again be recreated. General Jeanrette of the ANV is the overall commander for Manassas has asked Dewey (Buddy) Wheat to again command this Battalion. If you do not know, Buddy Wheat is a GGGNephew of Rob Wheat, the original Battalion Commander. In addition at past events relatives of other members of the original 1st Louisiana Special Battalion also participated.

If you or your unit would like to participate at this event, please consider falling in with us next July at this kick off event for the 150th cycle of Reenactments for the American Civil War. The Battalion, as envisioned will include Tiger Rifles in their distinctive stripped pants, Coppen's Zouaves in the red bloomers, and generic Confederates in gray and butternut. So far we have five units that are committed in attending, to include two Tiger Rifles, one Coppen's and two generic uniformed company, one that will be going back as Catahoula Guerillas (the modern 5th LA from Catahoula and Caldwell Parishes).

For more information on the event, here is a link to the event site: http://www.manassascivilwar.org/

If you know of another person or unit that does a Louisiana impression and might not be on this listing, could you let them know and pass this information on to them and have them contact me to put them on an information listing I will be keeping.

If you desire additional information, please contact me at your earliest.
