Padeye

Joshua Harvey Green (www.ancestry.com)
Born - 1828 - Franklin County, Virginia
Died - 1863 - Richmond, Virginia
Spouse - Nancy McCormick Green (Married 26 Jan 1854)

1860 US Census - Virginia - Southwest District of Franklin County – On the census document, Harvey Green is listed as a 35 year old farmer with wife Nancy and three children – Joel, 5 yo; James, 3 yo; Rhoda, 1 yo.
(1860; Census Place: South Western District, Franklin, Virginia; Roll M653_1346; Page: 71; Image: 75; Family History Library Film: 805346.)

Military Service - Genealogy records (family input) indicates 15th Louisiana Infantry – Probably based on Virginia Pension Records - but no records or sources provided.

There may be a roster containing Harvey Green’s name in the National Archives, but he is not listed in any of the typically available sources [1) Booth, Records of Louisiana Soldiers…, 1920; 2) NPS-CSR CWSS; 3) NARA-CSR M320].

Bergeron, AW. “Guide to Louisiana Confederate Military Units 1861-1865. LSU Press, 1989. - The 15th was organized on July 25, 1862 in Richmond, VA, from the 3rd LA Battalion and 2 companies of the 7th LA Infantry. Green was possibly recruited in Richmond during the last half of 1862, but his name does not appear in the usual sources. The National Archives will need to be checked for currently unpublished rosters of the 15th LA Infantry, but he is not listed as mentioned above, in known rosters.

www.acadiansingray.com (Steven Cormier) indicates the following about the 3rd Louisiana Battalion – “Although the 3rd Battalion Louisiana Infantry existed for over a year, there are no records for this unit in the CSRC or Booth. The records for this battalion evidently were subsumed into the regiment of which it became a part, the 15th Louisiana Infantry. However, not all of the individuals who are listed in the CSRC or Booth as belonging to the 15th Louisiana Infantry ever made it into that regiment. Some individuals died, resigned, or otherwise left the service while the 3rd Battalion still existed (June 1861 to July/August 1862), so their being listed as members of the 15th Louisiana Infantry is inaccurate. I have endeavored to straighten out this mess using the individual service records in the CSRC & Booth. If an individual listed in the CSRC or Booth as belonging to the 15th Louisiana Infantry enlisted during the existence of the 3rd Battalion but disappeared from Confederate service before the 15th Louisiana Infantry was formed, I do not include that individual in the roster of the 15th Louisiana Infantry despite what the CSRC or Booth says.”

Hope this helps
