Steve

In a quick check of the 1860 US Census for Rapides Parish, there is only one George Kelso on the census from Rapides Parish. He was the 3 year old son of John Kelso, a reasonably wealthy planter ($132,000 of assets, 28 yo from MD), with wife Mary, three children (1, 3, and 5 yo), and an overseer (John W Martin, 36 yo). In a follow-up with a look at Louisiana as a whole, there were only 3 Kelso families in the 1860 US census - John Kelso's family in Rapides and two in Orleans Parish (1 Kelso and 1 O'Kelso).

There doesn't seen to be a 20+ year old George or George Y. Kelso counted in Rapides Parish.

I will check a little further and get back to you.

Very best
