Re: Fire Battalion, Louisiana Militia

Matt.

There were two Fire Battalions. One was the Orleans Fire Battalion that existed in late 1861. It would eventually expanded the Orleans Fire Regiment in early 1862. This unit consisted of Volunteer Militia companies that had association with the Fire Dept from New Orleans. A second, often over looked, unit was the Louisiana Fire Battalion that also existed at the same time. It too was expanded to a regiment. Louisiana Fire Regiment, in late 1861/early 1862. It was comprised of Volunteer Militia companies associated with the Fire Dept from the area surrounding New Orelans, like Gretna and Chalmette.
