Thank you for the additional information on Marsden Campbell. As his elder brother James G Campbell was also a member of the 1st Regiment of Regular Infantry (LA) in March of 1861, in Captain James Strawbridge's Company (F), I am not at all surprised that Marsden was enlisted in the same organization. On seeing your first message (D----'s), the obvious answer seemed to be Dreux's, but it could have been anything else and needed confirmation. All in all, the information you have provides an impressive participation story for the members of this one family. With the letter requesting the promotion being signed by the LA Gov, Thomas Overton Moore, you have an exceptional family piece of Americana.

As a footnote, I have a copy of an original source document from 1865 that indicates that Dr J G Campbell was still with the Regiment (2nd LA Cavalry) on May 20, 1865 , the day the 2nd was essentially disbanded (although many of the men had gone home already - Co B and Co K had no men left and many of the men from each of the Companies simply rode away before this date). The document mentions that all of the Regiments mules, except the two on Dr Campbell's ambulance, were taken by men leaving the Regiment to go home. On the morning of the 20th, the remaining regiment members (Co.s B, C, D, E, F and K were mentioned. Co A was probably near Washington and Co G near or at Alexandria) were crossing 24 mile Ferry on the Cane River and in the evening they arrived at Natchitoches, where the men were given passes allowing them to go home to await developments.

You can e-mail any document copies or scans that you are willing to share to me at don.gayle@verizon.net. I would very much appreciate it.

Very best

Don Parker
