Z E. Townsend, 2nd Corporal, Company H, 1st (King's) Regiment Mississippi State Troops, enlisted August 16, 1862 at Kosciusko by Col. A. M. Davis, recorded at the end of the year as absent, sent to hospital December 6, no report since, marked without leave, still AWOL on the Jan & Feb, 1863 muster roll and recorded as a Private, no further records

Also in Company H, was Private R. W. Townsend, "Absent sent to Hospital Dec. 6 ret 14th Feb without leave, recorded on the Jan & Feb, 1863 muster roll as AWOL since February 4, 1863, no further records

In Company I were A. J. & L. M. Townsend

Z. E. Townsend, age 46, Private, Captain Tillman Lomax's Company, [Mississippi] Artillery Reserves, enlisted August 2, 1864 at Canton by Maj. J. D. Upton for the duration of the war, admitted to Grenada Hospital October 23,1864, detailed to take prisoners to Cahawba December 30,1864, no further records
