Re: George Harris 2Lt. Co.A 27th La. Infantry

Not much exists within the service record of George Harris. He enlisted in Company A (Skipwith Guards) on 3/29/1862 at Camp Moore, LA. At that time he is listed as a 2nd Sergeant. He was elected to 2nd Lt. on 3/15/1863. He died at Vicksburg on 7/2/1863. For a detailed description of the battles and travels of the 27th LA Infantry, I suggest you obtain a copy of "Twenty-seventh Louisiana Volunteer Infantry" by Terry G. Scriber. It was published by Pelican Publishing Co. in Gretna, LA in 2006. The Skipwith Guards were raised in East Feliciana Parish.
