Steve,

I acquired a copy of this book about 15 years ago through an inter library loan. I can remember I was very disappointed with the book as far as any history about the war in St. Mary parish.. There was little or near nothing about the war. I first learned about her book by looking at the citations from a Historical Resource Survey done for the Corps of Engineers by Goodwin and Associates. The survey was done on the area Bayou Teche from the Calumet Cut to Patterson La. The Corps had plans to dredge the Bayou Teche and by Federal law it is mandated they do the survey of the project area before any work can be done. I wish I could tell you more about the contents, but I do remember I was very disappointed with the book as to the historical content of the war.

Most researchers are not aware of the Historical Resource Surveys done by the Corps of Engineers. You can find great historical information on the war in Louisiana in these reports when they apply to the area being surveyed and the sources are well documented. There are four major archaelogical corporations in Louisiana that does a great deal of the work for the Corps. Of course it is all by a bid process. Coastal Enviromental, Inc. in Baton Rouge, Woodward and Associates in New Orleans, Jill Yakovich in New Orleans, (not sure of the spelling of Jill's last name), and Allen Saltus in Jackson, Louisiana. The Young-Sanders Center has been associated with Coastal Enviromenal through Charlie Pearson and Allen Saltus who has his own Company. I have used these surveys by archaelogist for a couple of decades and they always seem to come up with great historical information.
