Louisiana Brigade Numbering

I have read that the 1st La Brigade (Taylor/Hays) is also known as the 8th Brigade, ANV. I would assume other Louisiana Brigades, east and west would have similar numbers to identify them.

Question - reading a book on dogs (Loyal Heart, Michael Zucchero) and other animals that were mascots of various regiments, north and south, during the war. The book references a dog named 'Sawbuck' who was associated with the 4th Louisiana Brigade. He was wounded during the war, tho the book does not reference location or date of wounding. According to the Book, the 4th Brigade was the 2nd Louisiana Brigade (Stafford's). Does this sound right?

The book notes that 'Sawbuck' would go into battle with the men, running up and down the lines watching the fight. He was wounded during one engagement. Thereafter he would retire to the rear when fighting occured. He would stand on the road during marches, waiting for stragglers to come into camp. The book is a good read, for dog and/or animal lovers. There are a number of references to dogs and Louisiana Troops. Besides 'Sawbuck' there was Sergeant (3rd Louisiana) who was killed in action at Oak Hills Missouri on August 10, 1861 Chapter 1 in the book is about him); and Stonewall Jackson who was part of the Richmond Howitzers, until stolen by Louisiana Creoles later in the war.
