Mr. Solis: If your subject died at Vicksburg in July 1863 then he was part of some 160 men commanded at the seige by
Captain John A. Dixon of Company C, 12th La Infantry. Captain Dixon was my Great-Great Grandfather and surrendered this detachment as part of the cessation of hostilities on 7-4-1863. I would urge you to look at the site about the regiment that Mr. Hugh Simmons maintains. It has a lot of useful information.
