Jim,

Got the Cadet Gray and Butternut Brown: Notes on Confederate Uniforms book from a sutler at a reenactment. It was published by Thomas Publications in Gettysburg, PA in 2006. Since you mentioned the Peter Tait jacket, I will have to humbly recommend one of the guys in my unit's book on that subject. http://adolphusconfederateuniforms.com/store.html You should also check out his page on articles, lots of great stuff.

As for DeBlanc's rank at time of picture, let's try to figure this out together. Here is Perry's service record.

And DeBlanc's service record.

1863. A perfect gentleman and an excellent officer. In Aug., 1864, retired from disabling wounds
recd. July 2nd, 1863. All respected, obeyed and loved him. Born Louisiana, occupation lawyer,
age when enlisted 41, married, Res. St. Martinville, La.

When Perry was elected 2nd Jr. Lt, he would only have had one bar on each collar. He was appointed regimental adjutant on May 7, 1862 and on duty until his capture on Nov. 7, 1863. DeBlanc was appointed lt. colonel on April 6, 1863. DeBlanc was wounded on July 2, 1863, and was appointed a colonel by President Davis but never returned to service. Neither look wounded in the photograph, so it seems to logically make sense that the photograph was taken between Perry's appointment to adjutant on May 7, 1862 and DeBlanc's wounding on July 2, 1863. So technically, DeBlanc could have been a captain, major, or lt. colonel at the time of the photograph, but not a colonel, yet. This is, of course, pure speculation and left up to your opinion.

Looking to make a short violet jacket? haha You have had me eyeballing a dark purple blanket for conversion that I have but I did not want to clash with you on the field.
