William Olive, Sr. & Jr. were my GGG and GG Grandfathers as well. Tim and I are cousins:) The only oral history that made it down to me was that William Olive, Jr. was just a flag boy and had been captured his first or second time out with no mention of Sr. at all. I don't recall there being any mention of where he was captured either, but Henderson Hill would have been relatively close to home. Sporadic internet searches and conversations with a history-buff cousin on my mother's side have since revealed that he was in fact the Color Sergeant and had been in the field for some time, having joined an irregular unit that was later attached to the 2nd. The only other tidbit I can offer is that William Olive, Jr. went on to marry Mary Jane Knott, the niece of another man in the unit, A.J. Knott. Sadly, I know of no photographs or other artifacts and would be very interested to see any related to the 2nd. Our family during and after the War lived in Northern Natchitoches Parish Louisiana in a community known as Beulah. Reading through the thread here, I recognized a few family names from the area. One of my grandfather's sisters married a Graves and another married a Litton. I also have a couple of cousins in the Beulah area with the name Don Parker:) I search every several months to see if there is anything new about the 2nd on the web, but I've never seen any unit photos or complete rolls.
