He was paid in late June 1863 for a full two months service, so I would guess that he enlisted on or before May 1, 1863. That's the best I can surmise from the scant records surviving for him. His substitute took his place in the regiment ca. July 1, 1863. -- Jim Huffman, Gainesville Vols
