Actually wasn't looking for information on them, but just ran across that and thought about you. A violet uniform is hard to forget. Strangely enough I just bought an 1862 NO newspaper and it has ads looking for a company of men and named the Violett Rifles. The officers are Capt Rudolphe Woeste, 1st Lt Alphonse David, 2nd Lt W R Meek, 3rt Lt W H C Laade. Those names don't match up with the Violett Guards in Art's book. Any relation between the two units that you know of?
