Company C in their Record of Events noted:

Stationed on Board Steam Transport Pembina, Yazoo River, Nov-Dec., 1862

From a previous note, in civilian service it was called ". . . luxury passenger Steamer Pembina"

During the Vicksburg period it was part of the Union transport fleet. It would appear obvious that due to the prevalence
of much illness among the troops, sections of the vessel must have been set aside for the medical and nursing needs of the men.

JANUARY 17 -- The mortality in the regiment from disease during the last month is fearful, as will be seen in the body
of the return. This results from the great length of time we were on the boats and also the sudden change of
climate and water
