The Louisiana in the Civil War Message Board

Re: Andrew Jackson (AJ) Whitley

Don,

Thanks for the information on Andrew Jackson Whitley. Obviously you have much better and more information on him than I do. The information that I had came from the oral history of an individlual in Louisiana. This person knew he died in camp of some disease and I assumed he had probably enrolled in the same outfit and at about the same time as his brother Christopher Columbus (my great grandfather). This was very common in the Civil war for members of the same family to enlist together in the same company from their county. I did know that he left a widow and unborn child. I had searched the unit records and could not find him. I suppose that it was because his name was misspelled. I had erroneously assumed that he had died of disease shortly after arriving in camp and didn't make the first muster and therefore was not listed. Thanks so much for sharing this important documentation with me. I have the muster cards for all of my Civil War relatives but the documentation for Andrew Jackson could not be found. Sometimes this type of information is real hard to find.
