Louisiana Tigers

Hello, I recently came across an old pistol and was trying get a little information on it. The gun was found in the safe deposit box of a family member that passed away. The pistol has the following inscription, "Tiger Company, 2nd prize, April 25th, 1858 to L Dumser." The name on the inscription is very difficult to read, but the rest of is pretty clear. My family has lived in New Orleans for several generations. No one in our family has any information on the gun or even knew that it existed because we are not big into hunting or guns. When I began to research the gun, I ran across Tiger Company and being from New Orleans, I figured it was a match. But, I later found out that Tiger Company wasn't formed until 1861. We had a gun collector look at the gun, and he dated it as a 1849 Colt five shot 39 caliber pocket pistol. If anyone can provide any additional information, it would be greatly appreciated.
